Taber test

Wear resistance is one of the most critical aspects in evaluating parquet flooring, especially in environments subject to frequent use.

Over the years, Berti has developed and tested advanced finishing solutions to ensure high performance and long-lasting durability.
Among the methods used, the Taber Test represents one of the most reliable tools for simulating real wear and verifying the quality of varnished surfaces.

What is the Taber Test

The Taber Test is an internationally standardized test for evaluating the abrasion resistance of surface finishes.

The test is performed using equipment fitted with two counter-rotating abrasive wheels, which exert constant pressure on the parquet surface.

This process allows laboratory reproduction of typical daily use conditions, such as:

  • continuous foot traffic
  • friction from dust and particles
  • movement of furniture and objects

During the test, the surface is subjected to a defined number of cycles and subsequently analyzed to evaluate:

  • aesthetic variations
  • material loss
  • finish alteration
  • protective film resistance

The Berti LAB method

Berti integrates the Taber Test within its quality control process, applying it to internally developed finishing cycles.

Surfaces are tested using Extremestrong technology, a finishing system composed of multiple layers of high-resistance water-based varnishes, polymerized with UV technology.

This approach allows for surface protection designed to:

  • resist abrasion over time
  • maintain aesthetic integrity
  • reduce visible wear effects

The finishing cycle, structured in 7 layers, ensures uniform distribution of protection across the entire parquet surface.

Certified Taber Test results

Abrasion tests performed at independent laboratories (CATAS) confirm the high performance of Berti parquet in terms of wear resistance.

The results obtained exceed the requirements of reference standards, both in residential and commercial settings.

In particular, Berti parquet with Extremestrong technology achieves:

  • up to 3,000 cycles for residential use
  • up to 5,900 cycles for commercial use

Values that rank at the highest levels in the category, ensuring reliable performance even under intensive use conditions.

Intended use
Regulatory Minimum (cycles)Berti Result
Light traffic (residential)1.0002.800
Moderate traffic (residential)2.0003.000
Moderate traffic (commercial)4.0005.400
Heavy traffic (commercial)6.0005.900

Applications

Thanks to the performance achieved, Berti parquet is suitable for:

  • high-traffic residential environments
  • commercial spaces
  • contract and hospitality projects

Finish wear resistance is a key element in ensuring aesthetic continuity and reducing the need for maintenance over time.

Why the Taber Test is important

The durability of a wood surface depends not only on the raw material, but especially on the quality of the finishing system.

The use of standardized tests such as the Taber Test allows to:

  • provide reliable data to designers and clients.
  • objectively evaluate performance
  • compare different solutions

Conclusion

Through the application of the Taber Test, Berti confirms its commitment to developing high-performance parquet, designed to combine:

  • technical resistance
  • stability over time
  • aesthetic enhancement of wood

An approach based on research, testing and quality control, aimed at ensuring reliability in every application context.
